This page is in progress as I move my blogs from an old site called IIOG.blog to this new personal site. Please revisit it as it develops during the first quarter of 2025.
This C.S. Lewis video helped me see myself sitting in the kingdom of heaven having a personal spirit-filled conversation with my Father, King Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I summarized the video below. The last section, "How to Pray Effectively" was especially helpful to me.
Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons in a believer's spiritual life. However, many Christians fail to realize its full potential because they do not approach it with the seriousness and reverence it requires. C.S. Lewis, through his writings such as The Screwtape Letters, warns of distractions that keep Christians from effective prayer.
Prayer as a Fortress: Prayer is an unbreakable fortress against spiritual attacks.
Lifting the Mind to God: The enemy seeks to prevent believers from reaching a higher spiritual realm.
Distraction in Prayer: A distracted prayer life weakens its effectiveness.
Spiritual Battle in Prayer: The enemy actively works to divert Christians from true prayer.
Prayer operates in two dimensions: the earthly realm and the heavenly realm. Only one of these is effective in reaching God’s presence.
Done without full spiritual engagement.
Prayers are routine but lack spiritual connection.
Mind often wanders, leading to spiritual complacency.
Pride and self-focus hinder the connection with God.
Requires full surrender to God's presence.
Transports believers into a spiritual realm.
Leads to deeper communion and transformation.
Aligns the believer's will with God's will.
C.S. Lewis and biblical teachings warn against half-hearted prayers. A lukewarm approach to prayer makes believers ineffective in spiritual warfare.
Revelation 3:16 warns against being "neither hot nor cold."
God desires fervent, dedicated prayer.
Prayers that are casual or routine lack power.
Spiritual laziness leads to ineffective prayers.
Prayer must be accompanied by reverence.
Genuine prayer requires full engagement of mind, body, and spirit.
To pray effectively, one must engage in spiritual discipline, focusing entirely on God rather than personal distractions or external concerns.
Enter prayer with a surrendered heart.
Approach prayer with humility and reverence.
Be conscious of God's presence.
Prayer is not about getting what we want but aligning with God’s purpose.
Jesus taught in John 15:7 that our prayers will align with His will when we remain in Him.
Avoid distractions such as wandering thoughts.
Maintain spiritual discipline to stay engaged.
Hebrews 4:16 encourages believers to approach God with confidence.
Prayer is a direct connection with the divine, not just a ritual.
True prayer is not just communication but an act of engaging in spiritual authority. When believers pray from a position of faith, they access God’s power.
Ephesians 2:6 states that believers are seated in heavenly places with Christ.
True prayer operates from a position of spiritual dominion.
Romans 8:26-27 explains that the Holy Spirit intercedes for believers.
Christ Himself prays on behalf of His followers.
James 5:16 declares that "the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
Prayer is not just for personal benefit but for God’s glory and the salvation of others.
Applying these principles will lead to a more profound and effective prayer life, strengthening one's connection with God and spiritual authority.
Approach God with gratitude and humility before making requests.
Set aside dedicated time without distractions.
Engage in prayer with full heart and mind.
Allow the Holy Spirit to guide prayers rather than relying on personal effort.
Seek God's presence rather than just speaking words.
Meditate on Scripture before praying to align thoughts with God’s truth.
Pray for God's will to be done, not just personal desires.
Do not give up if prayers are not answered immediately.
Continue to seek God with faith and persistence.
Expect distractions and resist them with spiritual discipline.
Remain alert and guard prayer time against interruptions.
C.S. Lewis emphasizes that prayer is not just a routine but a powerful engagement with God. It is a spiritual act that requires intentional focus, faith, and full surrender. By shifting from praying in the flesh to praying in the spirit, believers can experience transformation, authority, and a deeper connection with God. Let us commit to a prayer life that is fervent, undistracted, and aligned with God's will, trusting that He hears and answers those who seek Him earnestly.
